Paris when it drizzles

If you visit Paris in the winter and the weather isn't on your side, here's a few things you can do in that glorious city of lights...

Take a macaron making class at La Cuisine Paris 

See the likes of Jeff Koons at the Pompidou Centre and take in a sunset view of the Eiffel Tower from the 6th floor.

Moroccan Mint Tea

Morocco is place full of memorable moments, sights, sounds, smells and tastes. Perhaps none is more memorable than the delicious mint tea that is served everywhere all day - in shops, cafes and after meals, Moroccan mint tea is hot, sweet and delicious - and relatively easy to make once you get the routine down. 

On our recent trip to Morocco we picked up some mint, tea and traditional teapots and glasses, but you can easily make the tea in a pan or in any stovetop pot or kettle.

Summer in Berlin

Some pictures from my birthday weekend spent in Berlin. The sun was HOT and the city was very very cool. Time was spent brunching, sitting by the canals in our Kreuzberg neighbourhood, lazing under the Willow tree at Club de Visionare, visiting the East Side Wall, watching the sun rise at Watergate, visiting the Our Berlin Vodka distillery and getting involved in the Mauerpark Fleamarkt Karaoke! (By 'getting involved' I mean watching - just watching - this time...)

Paris X Amsterdam

This weekend, Stephane and traveled to Amsterdam via Paris from London by train and stayed for a few days. Though most of my pictures were taken on my film camera (I'll share if they come out!), I took a few phone snaps. As always these beautiful cities, their architecture, culture and effortlessly stylish inhabitants served as wonderful inspiration... perhaps I'll start working on a Rose & Rina: Paris X Amsterdam line! 

Downtown from Behind

Maybe it's because I long to cycle through the streets of London but am far too cautious (read afraid) of the manic streets of this city to dare to do it, or maybe it's because I have an inexplicable love for New York and the way that city holds so many lives on so many different trajectories, but I instantly loved Bridget Fleming's photographic series of New York inhabitants taken (mostly) from behind zipping through the downtown streets. According to Fleming Downtownfrombehind (DFB) is a photographic series capturing subjects riding their bike from behind on some 200+ streets, avenues and lanes below 14th street in New York City.

The result is an environmental portrait for each street and subject with a goal to highlight a set of individuals, emerging and established, each uniquely contributing; culturally, socially and physically, to make this part of the city what it is today.
Subjects photographed to date include industrial designers, architects, creative directors, restauranteurs, entrepreneurs, hoteliers, artists and academics.

The pictures have an energy and life that capture the essence of the city and that mysterious New York light... oh the light...

Oysters, bread and cheese

Stephane and I spent some time in his hometown of Vannes, Brittany this month, and I thought I'd share some pictures from a week spent eating, oyster and prawn fishing, shopping at the local markets and visiting the 'Cote Sauvage' (or Wild Coast).

Corfu

 

Earlier last month, we spent an extended bank holiday weekend in Corfu an Island in the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece. As the weather warms up here in London I find myself thinking back to the beautiful Corfu coastline, the stillness of the sea, the fragrance of the lemons, the warmth of the people and the food...oh the food.

We were lucky enough to be there over the Greek Orthodox Easter and perhaps the most memorable experience was when we went up to the local church on Good Friday and joined in on a candlelit procession with the entire vlllage through the darkened streets behind the icon, the priest and the choir.

Walking amongst the locals so far from home, the only light coming from our candles and the fireflies, illuminating the olive trees and donkeys in the fields was without a doubt one of the most magical moments I've experienced.
